How do I set up my e-mail address in Gmail?

To add your .EUS e-mail address to Gmail, firstly you will have to obtain the connection information of your mail server. The following information will be sufficient:

• The POP3 server address and the port number that needs to be used to connect with the server.
• The SMTP server address and the port number that needs to be used to connect with the server.

To obtain this information, access your registrar’s user area and you will find it in the e-mail section. If you prefer, you can write to your registrar’s help service and you will be given all the details you need.

Once you’ve got this information, log into your Gmail account and open the “Settings” by clicking on the cog icon in the top right-hand corner.

In the “Settings” section, click on the “Accounts and Import” folder and then click on the option “Add another e-mail account that you already have” in the section “See other electronic messages of other accounts”.

A new window will open and will ask you to add the e-mail address you want to add to Gmail. When you have filled in the field, go on to the next step.

In the next step, you will be asked to provide the information needed to connect with the mail server. Before anything else, you will have to write the full e-mail address in the “User name” section, and in the “Password” section, add the password of the e-mail account you want. Now, using the information obtained at the start of this guideline, specify the address of the POP server and the port. If your registrar tells you that the connection has to be made through SSL, tick the box “Always use secure connection (SSL) when retrieving mail”.

In the next step you will be asked whether you want to send e-mails using your new .EUS e-mail address. If you want to send messages from Gmail with your .EUS address, answer ‘yes’ and go on to the next step.

In this step you will be asked for the name and surname(s) you want to be displayed by those who receive messages from your .EUS e-mail address.

Now the SMTP server needs to be set up in order to be able to send messages from the .EUS address; this is done in the same way as the configuration you have done for receiving Gmail messages through the POP server. With the information obtained at the start of this article, fill in the SMTP server’s address and port. In addition, you will also have to supply the password of the account you want to add.

To add the address, the change has to be confirmed. You will receive a confirmation message explaining the steps needed to continue.

Gmail has now been set up to receive and send the messages of your .EUS e-mail address. If you want to send all the messages you have sent from your new address, choose the option “set as default”.

In addition, whatever the default address is, you will have the option of selecting the e-mail address you want to use for sending purposes when you write a message.
